Lucknow: Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) celebrated its 6th Research Day, marking yet another milestone in the institute’s growing commitment to scientific excellence and innovation. The event witnessed an impressive display of research achievements by faculty members and students, with more than 330 research posters showcased—significantly higher than in previous years—highlighting the expanding research culture at the premier medical institute.
Director, Padma Shri Prof R. K. Dhiman, who initiated the tradition of celebrating Research Day in 2020, expressed his satisfaction over the increasing awareness and enthusiasm for research across the institute. He noted that the growing participation reflected a positive shift towards inquiry-driven medical education and innovation.
Highlighting the importance of research at SGPGIMS, Dean Prof Shaleen Kumar stated that research forms one of the three core pillars of the institute, alongside education and patient care. He emphasized that robust research plays a crucial role in delivering quality healthcare solutions that are locally relevant and affordable, ultimately benefiting patients and strengthening the healthcare system.
Prof Vinita Agrawal, Faculty In-charge, Research, informed that the institute also felicitated 15 SGPGIMS scientists who featured in the top 2 per cent scientists list of the US Stanford University 2025 rankings. Their recognition on Research Day underscored SGPGIMS’ rising global academic and research footprint.

The academic highlight of the event was the keynote address by Dr Vinod Scaria, who delivered an insightful lecture on “Personal Genomes for Precision Medicine.” He stressed the growing importance of genetic analysis in early disease detection, noting that precision medicine can significantly improve patient outcomes through timely and targeted interventions.
To ensure rigorous evaluation, around 26 expert judges interacted with researchers and assessed the poster presentations across various categories. A total of 40 awards—16 in the faculty category and 24 in the student category—were finalized based on innovation, relevance and scientific merit. The awards will be formally presented during the Foundation Day celebrations of SGPGIMS on December 14, 2025.
The successful organizing of the 6th Research Day reaffirmed SGPGIMS’ position as a leading centre for medical research and innovation, fostering a culture that bridges scientific discovery with improved patient care.
